An action-packed Day 7 of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris saw 25 gold medals handed out.

France's superstar swimmer Leon Marchand capped a historic week with his fourth gold medal, winning the 200m individual medley, while America's Caeleb Dressel failed to medal in the 50m freestyle.

Over at the Stade de France in track, a thrilling final in the men's 10,000m was won by Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei, with America's Grant Fisher taking bronze.

More good news for the host nation came as France swept the podium in the men's BMX race and their men's soccer team defeated bitter rivals Argentina to advance to the semifinals.

The United States men's indoor volleyball have capped off a perfect 3-0 record in pool play with a 25-16, 25-18, 18-25, 25-19 victory over Japan.

They advance to Monday's quarterfinals as one of the top three seeds.

Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac (Czech Republic) have defeated Wang Xinyu and Zhang Zhizhen (China) in a match tiebreak to take the gold medal in the mixed doubles tennis tournament.

After splitting the two sets 6-2, 5-7, the Czech pair won the tiebreak 10-8 after rallying from 3-0 down. Wang and Zhang double-faulted to give Siniakova and Machac match point, which they converted on the first opportunity on an unforced error.

This is the second Olympic gold medal of Siniakova's career after her women's doubles title at Tokyo 2020.

The American duo of Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng have defeated Germany's Svenja Muller and Cinja Tillmann to finish group play in women's beach volleyball with a perfect 3-0 record.

Both American duos (also Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth) have advanced to the round of 16 with unblemished records, setting up a possible meeting between the two teams in the semifinals.

Australia's Saya Sakakibara takes the lead of the women's BMX racing final by the first turn and never looks back as she claims the gold medal in runaway fashion!

Manon Veenstra (Netherlands) and Zoé Claessens (Switzerland) round out the podium, separated by just over a tenth of a second from one another.

Sakakibara celebrates with her boyfriend Romain Mahieu, who had won bronze for France in the men's final just minutes prior.

The United States men's 3x3 basketball team has beaten China 21-17 to improve to a 2-4 record.

The Canyon Barry show continued as he has now scored 30 points in his last two games. Kareem Maddox owned the glass against China, grabbing 10 rebounds including a crucial one late that helped win the game.

As they exited the court, the U.S. players screamed, "A dog is still in the fight!"

The U.S. play their final group game against the Netherlands on Sunday knowing that a win will clinch a spot in the next round.

Despite having a goal disallowed in the second half, France have beaten Argentina 1-0 on the back of Jean-Philippe Mateta's goal in the fifth minute.

Monday's semifinals in the men's soccer tournament are now set: France vs Egypt, and Morocco vs Spain.

Tomorrow's game between Serbia and South Sudan will determine Group C’s runner-up. Assuming the United States beats Puerto Rico, here’s how the quarterfinals will look (we’ll need to wait until the quarterfinal draw to know the exact bracket composition).

If Serbia wins as expected:

• USA (seeded) vs. Brazil
• Germany (seeded) vs. Greece
• Canada vs. France
• Serbia vs. Australia

If Serbia wins by exactly one point:

• South Sudan makes it in over Greece and faces Germany. So now I’m rooting for Serbia to be up three with five seconds left and South Sudan in possession of the ball so that Serbia fouls on purpose in order to eliminate Greece.

If South Sudan wins by eight or fewer points:

• USA (seeded) vs. Brazil

If South Sudan wins by between 9-23 points:

Germany have beaten France 85-71 in both teams’ final group stage game of the men’s Olympic basketball tournament, ensuring it will finish with one of the top two seeds in the knockout round, which begins Tuesday. France will advance as well, but will now face a much harder quarterfinal matchup.

There are two games left in Group C tomorrow: USA vs. Puerto Rico and Serbia vs. South Sudan. Assuming the U.S. wins — it will be heavy favorites — it will be the other top seed in the knockout round and be on the opposite side of Germany in the bracket.

USA will face Brazil in that scenario — Brazil is guaranteed to be one of the two best third-placed teams and Germany cannot play Brazil in the quarterfinals because they were both in Group B.

France have swept the men's BMX race podium in thrilling style, with Joris Daudet taking the gold medal ahead of compatriots Sylvain André and Romain Mahieu.

With French president Emmanuel Macron watching on from the crowd, the celebrations for the home heroes inside of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines BMX Stadium were rapturous.

In the men's team épée final, Hungary and Japan needed sudden-death overtime to determine which team would claim the gold medal.

Japan came from behind to tie the final at 25-25, but Gergely Siklosi secured the winning hit in overtime to secure gold for the Hungarians.

Not content to just posterize Victor Wembanyama, Germany’s Franz Wagner decided to take on the entire French team.

This amazing one-handed jam — this picture is just the reverse angle — gave Germany a 22-point lead over the host nation.

Egypt have defeated Paraguay in a penalty shootout to advance to the semifinals of the men's soccer tournament.

Paraguay took a 1-0 lead in the 71st minute through Inter Miami's Diego Gomez, but Egypt forced extra time after Ibrahim Adel headed Egypt level in the 88th minute.

After a scoreless extra time, Egypt won the shootout 5-4 after Hamza Alaa saved Marcelo Pérez's attempt.

More bad news for Paraguay came in the form of an injury to Brighton and Hove Albion forward Julio Enciso, who was in tears and inconsolable as he was forced off in the 78th minute. The 20-year-old Enciso missed August to February of last season due to a torn meniscus sustained in training.

Egypt will face the winner of France vs Argentina in the semifinals on Monday.

In the final swimming event of the day, Americans Alex Walsh and Kate Douglass have advanced to the final of the women's 200m individual medley, qualifying first and third.

Summer McIntosh, the 17-year-old Canadian phenom who has already won gold medals in the 400m IM and 200m fly at these Games, qualifies second for tomorrow night's final.

Germany’s Franz Wagner made an early statement, and the rest of his team has followed against France. The 2023 world champions lead France 48-27 at halftime and are well on their way to claiming Group B and a top-two seed in the knockout rounds.

The Germans’ big run started when Wagner made the pro-France crowd gasp midway through the first quarter. Wagner surged straight down the middle of the court on the break, switched from left to right in in midair and threw it down on French sensation Victor Wembanyama. Wagner and Dennis Schröder, Germany’s two best players, have more points combined (31) than France as a team.

Both teams will advance regardless of the result, but Germany will secure a much more favorable matchup against one of the third-place teams.

France, meanwhile, will fall to 2-1 with a rough point differential unless it can rally. That would likely put France in the unenviable position of having to face Canada or Serbia, two top medal contenders, in the quarterfinals.

A frenetic, open and lively first half between France and Argentina comes to a close in Bordeaux.

France has been the better team and Michael Olise the best player but Argentina have grown into it and missed an absolute sitter to draw level when Giuliano Simeone (pictured above) dollied his header over the bar.

That's the men’s 10,000m Olympic record absolutely smashed. World record holder Joshua Cheptegei didn’t hit the front until 550m out but won it in 26:43.

This was such a fast race from the off, a moment where Canada’s Mohammed Ahmed went to the front and tried to slow it, but the pace picked up again. There were still eight guys in it with 250m to go.

It’s a fast track and modern shoes make for fast times, but to have so many men finishing sub-27 minutes speaks volumes about the quality of distance running, especially in warm and humid conditions. What a closer to day one of the track and field!

With his bronze in the men's 10,000m at Stade de France, Grant Fisher becomes just the fourth American man in history to medal in the event. Fisher, who stumbled with about nine laps to go and almost fell, came back from fifth place in the final lap, closing within a few meters of eventual winner Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda, and was just edged out at the tape for the silver medal by Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi.

Still, Fisher becomes the first U.S. man to medal in the 10,000 since Galen Rupp won the silver in London at the 2012 Summer Games. Lewis Tewanima also won silver in the event at the 1912 Olympic Games. Billy Mills, who won the gold medal at 10,000m at the 1964 Summer Games in Tokyo, remains the only U.S. man to ever win the event.
